Immediately contact the police to complete an accident report and then notify the Payless rental location within 24 hours of the accident. In most incidents, you will need to return to the rental office to complete an accident report for Payless Car Rental’s records and your own. This report is for both parties’ protection, and is particularly important if you have purchased a waiver of damage.

Additional drivers are allowed at most locations and there may be an additional fee if state law permits. If you purchase and pay for a Collision Damage Waiver, Payless will waive all or a portion of it's right to collect from you for collision damage to the rented vehicle. It is not insurance. It deals only with your obligation to pay for damage to the rented vehicle.

CDW is offered in every state except New York.

There are exclusions to CDW. It can be void if you have an accident while under the influence or drive on unpaved roads or push or tow anything, for example. The exclusions vary by state. You can read them on the back of each Payless rental agreement.

CDW is optional. You are not required to purchase CDW. Your personal auto policy may cover damage to the rented vehicle. If you do not have a personal auto policy that covers the rented vehicle, or proof of this coverage at the time of rental, the Payless location cannot require you to purchase CDW; however, Payless can elect not to rent to you.

CDW for trucks and larger vehicles. If you are renting a truck larger than a pick-up truck, your personal auto policy may not cover the rented vehicle. Check with your insurer if you are uncertain.

Renter and any authorized driver(s) must have a valid driver’s license in their own name. The driver’s license must be valid for the entire rental period. In addition, international renters/authorized driver’s must have a valid driver’s license from their country of origin. A valid international driver’s permit will be required if license of origin is not in roman alphabet, and valid passport must be presented.

Payless Car Rental may perform a driver’s license check and may deny a rental car based on a negative driving record.

Local rental and state restrictions may apply. Under the terms of the rental agreement, the rental vehicle will be confined to a certain area and that area will be defined on the rental agreement. Most vehicles are confined to the state in which they are rented. Sometimes that area is not attractive to numerous rentals and the confinements may be expanded to a larger radius. Payless attempts to provide a full tank of gas at time of rental. Refueling options that are available at most Payless locations include:

• At the time of rental, customers may purchase the full tank of gas at the current market price with no refunds (charges may vary).
  
• Return with less than a full tank and Payless will refuel the vehicle for a refueling service charge (location’s service charge may vary).
  
• Return with a full tank and pay no refueling service charge.

Hand control equipped vehicles are available on request and advance reservations are required. These cars must be requested in advance by calling 1-800 - PAYLESS.

Your credit card may cover your responsibility for damage to our vehicle. However, that coverage is almost always secondary or excess to any other coverage you might have, such as your own auto insurance policy. In the usual case, credit cards wind up covering only the deductible on the collision and comprehensive portion of your personal auto policy. To be certain, you must check the terms of your credit card agreement.

Every location is required by the laws of the state in which the vehicle is titled, and by the Payless franchise agreement, to provide liability insurance or a self-insured indemnity, in minimum amounts that vary by state. This so-called compulsory liability insurance protects the customer against claims made by persons injured by the customer while driving a rented vehicle.

Mechanical problems must be reported to the rental location.

PAI/PAC is an optional accidental death and medical insurance coverage offered to every rental customer, when available. Coverage is extended to the renter and his/her passengers according to the stipulations of the actual policy. PAI/PAC, if accepted, is subject to an additional charge per day or partial day of the rental. PAI/PAC benefits apply to accidents only.

PEC is an optional coverage for personal belongings of the renter and immediate members of his/her family who are traveling with him/her, offered to every rental customer, when available, according to the stipulations of the actual policy. PEC, if accepted , is subject to an additional charge per day or partial day of the rental.

Every Payless car is rented on the assumption that your personal auto policy will cover all liability claims for injuries to others that you cause. This coverage is advisable for all customers because the liability coverage that comes with each rented vehicle is limited to the coverage permitted by each state. In some cases, that total coverage may only be as little as $15,000. The customer’s own personal auto policy may also be similarly limited.

For a daily fee, you can have the peace of mind that you have the amount specified on the policy of liability coverage.

SLI increases your liability coverage to the amount specified on your policy, normally $500,000 or $1 million combined single limit for any one accident. It is primary coverage and protects your personal assets and prevents your personal auto policy from being responsible for anything below the policy limit. SLI covers injuries to persons and property you damage while driving the rented car. It does not cover you or passengers in the rented car.

It is the policy of Payless to have the confirmed vehicle available for a period of up to two hours after the scheduled arrival time with the exception of any reservations for the pickup within the last hour of operation.
For those reservations, the vehicle will be held for one hour that day and the first hour of operation the following day. It is the customer’s responsibility to notify our reservation center at 1-800- Payless or the location directly of any delays prior to the time of arrival. This will ensure that the location continues to hold the vehicle. Failure to do so will result in the release of the vehicle.
